predicando en el campo

a little update on our preaching here! we arrived last tuesday and on wednesday we went to the atuntaqui spanish meeting (about 10 minutes north of us). we hitched a ride with some of the brothers on our road who are part of the english group there. we went in service thursday, saturday, monday and tuesday with atuntaqui. they are a small congregation with only about 6 or 8 out each day. there is an american couple and an american single sister in the congregation, all have been there for several years and their spanish is very good. they've been super helpful with all the important stuff, especially where to get a good local lunch for $1.25 :) i also learned how to flick my umbrella at the neighborhood dogs when they look like they might attack.

in atuntaqui, the territory has been mostly in town. it is one of the smaller towns in the area and definitely more local, less money, which we really enjoy. cotacachi (which we live just outside of) is known for leather making and has some tourism and a LOT of retirees have settled there. otavalo (which we are 10 minutes from) is much larger, has a HUGE market and tons of tourists.

so anyway, we've been going in service....on thursday, i got attacked by mosquitos and have about 9 or 10 bites on each leg. torture! i have since worn boots every day. josh and i have been doing little presentations already and placing tracts and magazines (i am virtually reading from a post it note). i am working on boldness and have been placing tracts on the bus to and/or from field service in the mornings!

this past tuesday night we went to a different congregation in otavalo. we want to check out the congregations in the area to see which is the best fit and where we can be most helpful. otavalo north is a bigger congregation and so far we've been out in service 2 days with them. there has been a good size group both days. yesterday we piled into a brother's van and headed about 10 minutes outside of town. josh was able to go on a study with a brother so after service i walked into town, went to the market, bought some fruit, placed a tract with the vendor, felt a little bit like a local! then today we all piled into a pickup truck (about 6 in the back) and headed about 20 minutes outside of town. the scenery is just beautiful, surrounded by mountains, and the people are so friendly and nice. the otavalo congregation has a piece of territory that is 2 1/2 hours away by car. there are 5 foreign brothers and sisters that live out there helping the group there, they do all their meetings there and the otavalo congregation helps them with their territory every other thursday and every other sunday. when they go out there on sundays they also go to the meeting there to support.

some of the sisters in service today, she is talking to a farmer on the other side of those bushes, and the other 3 sisters are climbing up this huge steep hill from the main road to join the rest of us.

  1. you dove straight into the spiritual activity when you got down there. Jehovah is definitely going to show his appreciation and bless you for your lack of hesitation.
