new home
as many of you may know already, we applied for residency here in ecuador so that we can stay here longer. we found out about 2 weeks ago that our residency was approved! now our passports are with the government, and we should have them back in a few weeks with a new residency visa.
now that we've made the residency commitment to ecuador, we were ready to commit to buying furniture and appliances (rental apartments here don't come with appliances like they do at home). so after a year and a half of living in the beautiful country, we've moved to town. we found a 3 bedroom apartment in the center of town with a small balcony, roof access, a parking spot in a secure garage for our car, a calafone (so we can have hot water) and a hookup INSIDE the apartment for a washer and a dryer (these last 2 items are actually pretty big deals here). the last few weeks have been really busy as we've been shopping around for appliances, moving, cleaning, and so on. we're having most of our furniture made by a brother in our congregation and we got our first piece last week! you can see it in the photo above - our living room coffee table! the brother did a great job, we gave him photos of furniture from restoration hardware along with dimensions and we're really pleased with the work so far. we have been living in the apartment now for nearly a week. we have a mattresses on the floor, a microwave, a toaster oven, a fridge, and the living room set up as you can see above, so we are doing ok so far. we should get our stove this week and our washer and dryer next week. super exciting!
we are also really excited to be in town. we didn't really live that far out of town before (a 10 minute car ride, a 15 minute bus ride) but it just seemed far. now we feel a lot closer to the kingdom hall and it will be a lot easier to have the local brothers and sisters over for dinner or coffee or whatever. we also won't be driving as much in service anymore, which is good, it will get us walking more and force us to do more street witnessing.
we will keep you posted with more photos as the rooms come together.

Glad to hear you're happy with the move out of the country, even though it wasn't easy. Has the noise been much of an issue so far?
ReplyDeleteNO! surprisingly it's been really good. the thing that's hard is actually the streetlights - it is really bright in our bedroom! we need to invest in some serious shades or darker curtains. all in due time.
DeleteJehovah bless you with this move and your service to him down there. Town life sounds like it will be good and you can always take the 10 min car ride out to the country. THREE bedrooms..you're just itching for company and I'm just the person to give it to you! That's fantastic and I'm looking forward to pictures of the other rooms as you set them up! Keep the info coming. All the best with the new abode! I wonder if balcony witnessing could become a thing? Is your balcony over the street? :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like such exciting times for you! Congrats on the move! New follower here BTW :)
